6/30 update

Parker had quite a long day. He had to get a blood transfusion; got a fever which meant he had to have blood cultures taken; eye drops 3 times today; some other new medicine for something I don’t remember; and he is starting his new chemo tonight. This is the blue stuff that is known as “smurf juice”. We are all excited to see the blue/green pee
. It doesn’t take much to amuse us! Other than all of that – Parker was up and down with playing or watching movies in bed. He did eat a pack of fruit snacks, 5 goldfish and 1/2 a donut – so we are doing a tad better.
Keep Paige and I in your prayers – I think we are both getting colds
Continue to pray for God’s healing hand in Parker. That the chloromas will breakdown and leave his body and that Parker will not experience long or short term side effects from the chemo. Also pray for Parker’s friends on the floor and those that are able to be at home right now.

Parker overall had a good day. He did complain about his back hurting, but nothing tylenol couldn’t help. He is also taking eye drops – which he hates. With the aro-c that he is getting (chemo) it tends to give you eye troubles, so the drops are given to prevent that. He is also receiving another med to get rid of uric acid. I guess with the cells breaking down they could crystalize and form something like kidney stones. Still not eating – but drinking is fine.
Tomorrow he will start a chemo that is new to him. This is supposed to be the strong one that will really break down the cancer – at least we hope. The fun part of it I guess would be it turns his pee blue.
Thank you for all of the birthday wishes. Basecamp brought in Chili’s for dinner, so even though we were stuck in the hospital it turned out to be a great night.
Pray for Parker to not experience any more pain; for him to not have issue with his eyes or kidneys; for restful sleep; and for this round of chemo to kill off all the cancer cells in his body.

Parker’s LP went fine today. He is such a brave boy! He also had his first day of chemo. Thankfully no naseau. He is getting zofran to help with that, but it doesn’t always work. Parker also had to have a echocardiogram and a chest x-ray so the doctor’s can have a baseline. I was so amazed at how routine this has became when Parker laid on the x-ray table and held perfectly still with his hands above his head. Wow!
Parker was a little fussy today – understandably so. He was also complaining about his belly hurting. It is the same pain he experienced when we first came in 2 weeks ago. When he was slightly under from his LP (spinal) Aaron and I were able to feel some of the masses in his stomach. In a way it was neat – but more scarey then anything. I can definitely see more lymph nodes swollen in his neck so I’m glad that his treatment began today.
Now, here is something for you to laugh at. I’ve started running! I haven’t ran since high school! Aaron and I are running along with some of the nurses in the Race for the Taste in October. It is a 10K (about 6 miles). We are all (runners and our fans) going to wear shirts that say something about Parker. I was thinking Team Parker or Parker’s Team on the front and then the website on the back. We are going to try and find a business to sponsor them. Okay, so if you aren’t laughing yet – get ready. In January I will be running in the Disney marathon!!! I am going to sign up with Team and Training and hopefully I can get a spot for the 1/2 marathon instead (they were full by the time I signed up). My training has been very therapeutic. Of course I have only had 3 days of it. I have found myself singing songs in my head (guess I need an ipod) and thinking about breakfast or planning Parker’s bday party. I told Aaron he had to at least give me a month training before he started with me (I had a cramp less than a tenth of a mile in!).
Pray for Parker to eat. Pray for the tumors to fully disapate. Pray that he only has to have this one round of chemo before we head to transplant.
